The Cockrills were responsible for many of the finer buildings to be found in Great Yarmouth and Gorleston-on-Sea. Their most prodigious period lasted from around the 1850's to the 1930's.

The building talents of the Cockrills were not confined exclusively to grand town buildings. They also built many houses in the locality, particularly in the Bells Road and Trafagar Road areas of Gorleston-on-Sea.
